On April 25^th, the mandatory national standard GB 43854-2024“Safety technical specification of lithium-ion battery for electric bicycle”was officially released and will be implemented on November 1^st this year. Guangdong Testing Institute of Product Quality Supervision (GQI) participated in the formulation of the standard.

As a mandatory national standard for the safety of lithium-ion battery for electric bicycles, the implementation of GB 43854-2024 will be conducive to promoting the standardization of the design, production and selling of lithium-ion battery for electric bicycles as well as the steady development of the electric bicycle industry. Also, it will effectively improve the quality level of lithium-ion battery for electric bicycles, reducing the incidence rate of safety accidents such as fires, so as to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property.

The standard GB 43854-2024 stipulates the safety requirements for lithium-ion battery for electric bicycles from seven aspects: electrical safety ( including overcharge, over-discharge, external short circuit, temperature protection, etc.), mechanical safety ( including extrusion, acceleration shock, vibration, etc.), environmental safety ( including low pressure, temperature cycling, immersion, etc.), thermal diffusion, mutual recognition and coordinated charging, data collection, and marking.
