Recently, a Provincial Quality Standards Laboratory for Safety and Reliability of Intelligent Robots, jointly applied by GQI, in the lead, together with KUKA Robotics (Guangdong) Co.,Ltd., Guangdong University of Technology, and Yinghe (Shenzhen) Robotics and Automation Technology Co.,Ltd., has been approved for establishment by the Guangdong Administration for Market Regulation. It is one of the first batch of 15 provincial-level quality standards laboratories in Guangdong Province.

The Provincial Quality Standards Laboratory for Safety and Reliability of Intelligent Robots is the first key quality standards laboratory in Guangdong Province with the safety and reliability of intelligent robots as its research direction. Relying on the only National Industrial Robot Quality Testing and Inspection Center in South China that specializes in testing and inspection of robots and their industrial chains, along with KUKA, the leading enterprise in the robot chain in Guangdong Province, and Guangdong University of Technology, this laboratory has created a platform for quality linkage and improvement of the industrial chain and supply chain, which led by the chain leader, enabled by technology, and supported by basic research.

The laboratory will focus on the research of common technologies for quality standards such as the safety and reliability of intelligent robots, including four aspects: analysis and evaluation of industry’s quality situation, research on testing and inspection technologies and methods, research on quality risk monitoring, assessment and early warning, and research on quality improvement of the industrial chain. With the safety and reliability of intelligent robot product as the key breakthrough point, it aims to construct “ the national first-class, the province to lead”quality standards laboratory that provides support for the high-quality development of the industry through improving the construction of relevant standards system in the robot industry, strengthening the research and development and promotion of testing means, technologies and methods for quality safety and reliability, striving to overcome the weak links and bottleneck in the quality field of the intelligent robot industry chain, and giving full play to the advantages of cooperation among industry, university, research and inspection.

The Quality Standards Laboratory is established to promote the iterative upgrading of quality infrastructure, providing the country a strong support to improve quality of development. It is a non-profit technological innovation platform for organizing basic and applied research on major quality standards, carrying out high-level quality standards formulation and application promotion, gathering and cultivating outstanding quality standard talents. The Provincial Quality Standards Laboratory aims to keep up with the construction direction and requirements of the National Quality Standards Laboratory, with the goal of boosting Guangdong Province’s strength in manufacturing and quality. Focusing on the urgent need for quality technological innovation in national strategic tasks, key projects and livelihood projects, combined with the development of strategic emerging industries in Guangdong Province, it has accelerated the process of quality technological innovation and application that centered on quality standards. Through strengthening openness and sharing, enhancing the industrial basic capacity, and serving the quality upgrading of the industry, it has also promoted the advancement and modernization of the industrial base as well as industrial chain of Guangdong Province, contributing to the high-quality development of the economy and society.
